Finding Your Why: The Foundation Of Sustainable Health
Knowing what you want to achieve is not enough. You need to know why it matters. The why is what keeps you going when the motivation disappears.

Finding Your Why: The Foundation Of Sustainable Health
Knowing what you want to achieve is not enough.
I want to lose weight. I want to get fit. I want to eat better.
These are goals. Goals are fine. But goals alone do not sustain behaviour across difficult periods — and every health journey has difficult periods.
What sustains behaviour is knowing why the goal matters.
Surface vs. Deep Why
Surface why: "I want to lose weight to look better."
Deep why: "I want to be a present, energetic father for my children. I want them to see a father who takes care of himself and who models what that looks like. I want to be healthy enough to still be running at 65."
The surface why evaporates under pressure. The deep why does not.
How To Find Yours
Ask yourself why you want what you say you want. Then ask why again. And again.
I want to get fit. Why? Because I want more energy. Why does more energy matter? Because I am exhausted by 3pm and I am missing my best hours with my family. Why does that matter? Because I only get one shot at raising my kids. I want to be present for it.
That is a why. That will get you out of bed at 6am when you do not feel like it.
Write It Down
A why that lives only in your head is less powerful than one written down and reviewed.
Write it. Read it. Post it somewhere visible.
On the hardest days — when motivation is absent and the couch is winning — reconnecting with the why is often enough to shift the decision.
